Two Houston restaurants are helping set the standard for sustainability as part of the Texas Certified Green Restaurant® Program, a partnership between the Green Restaurant Association and the Texas Restaurant Association. Bludorn Restaurant and Navy Blue have both earned Certified Green Restaurant® status by implementing environmental steps that reduce costs, improve efficiency, and prepare Texas restaurants for the global spotlight ahead of the world’s largest soccer events coming in Summer 2026.
Bludorn Restaurant completed 37 environmental steps, earning over 105 GreenPoints™, including recycling fryer oil into biodiesel, installing Energy Star convection ovens, holding cabinets, and refrigerators that are 30–40% more efficient than conventional models, and reducing unnecessary plastic by offering straws upon request.
Navy Blue Restaurant completed 40 environmental steps to earn over 150 GreenPoints™. The restaurant keeps up to 90% of its waste out of landfills through composting and recycling programs, installed low-flow aerators on hand sinks that reduce water use by 77%, and minimizes waste by offering reusable dishware and napkins.
Together, Bludorn and Navy Blue exemplify how restaurants can strengthen their businesses while improving their environmental impact. Combined, they are saving 71,800 kWh of electricity annually—equivalent to taking more than 11 passenger vehicles off the road for a year. They are also conserving 261,800 gallons of water, the amount needed to fill about 24 backyard swimming pools, while diverting over 208,000 pounds of waste from landfills each year. As part of the Texas Certified Green Restaurant® Program, they join a growing group of restaurants working with GRA Sustainability Consultants to implement proven environmental practices that cut costs, attract customers, retain staff, and prepare Texas restaurants for the increased global attention coming Summer 2026.
