In 2019, the Green Restaurant Association partnered with the Madison Square Park Conservancy and the Flatiron NoMad Partnership in Manhattan to create America’s newest Green Dining Destination™. Currently, the neighborhood is 40% of the way towards achieving the goal of 20 Certified Green Restaurants® with several already certified. In July 2022, John Meadow, founder of LDV Hospitality, and his team at Scarpetta catered a beautiful outdoor event in the neighborhood. The group hosted about 50 people from around 24 nearby restaurants for a four-course meal with a live band to encourage the restaurants to become Certified Green Restaurants® and help the neighborhood become a Green Dining Destination™. The completion of the Green Dining Destination™ will recognize the neighborhood as the first in NY to reach this designation. It will also provide the area with the opportunity to unite under one banner to encourage consumers around New York and the country to Dine Green.
