Los Angeles County is taking steps to adopt plant-based food options in its food service contracts. Foodservice operations that serve the city are required to provide at least one vegan entree daily, plant-based alternatives to dairy products, and competitive pricing for all plant-based items against other options. With these steps, Los Angeles is hoping to meet ambitious goals to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions from food purchasing. All county departments must also prioritize plant-based options in future proposals for food service and submit an annual report detailing their animal and plant-based food purchasing for the year.
